Ihr aktuelles Album Places and Stories wurde von der Kritik als "gewaltiges und sensationelles Debüt" gefeiert, das zeigt, wie dicht und konzentriert die Band musizieren vermag. Das 2015 in Frankfurt am Main gegründete Ivan Habernal Quartet bietet contemporary Jazz-Originalkompositionen seines Bandleaders und Bassisten, der in Prag Musik studierte und in New York City Privatunterricht nahm, bevor er in der Frankfurter Szene ankam. Die Band besteht aus etablierten Jazzmusikern, Martin Standke, Andrey Shabashev und Peter Klohmann, und versucht, Spontaneität und musikalische Freiheit auf einem Hintergrund von engen Grooves, farbenfrohen Harmonien und reichen melodischen Linien auszudrücken.
